Local’s guide to the Bangalow & the Byron Hinterland
Byron Bay and its beaches are truly awesome, but it’s the hinterland that’s our favourite place to explore. Angela & I are raising our family on a farm that has been in my family for four generations and thought you might be interested in our suggestions for great discoveries and adventures in the Byron Bay Hinterland –
Rainforest & waterfalls – be amazed by World Heritage listed subtropical rainforest & numerous waterfalls in Nightcap National Park, just a short drive into the hills from Byron Bay;
Enjoy the unspoilt character & groovy shops during a stroll through hinterland towns like Bangalow, Newrybar & Federal;
Local markets – the Farmer’s & Artisan markets in the Northern Rivers really are brilliant;
Try some of the great cafés & eateries. Our favourites include Town in Bangalow, Harvest at Newrybar, Federal Doma Café, Eltham Valley Pantry & the Clunes Store
Get along to one of the many festivals hosted in the area – everything from music such as the Byron Bluesfest & Splendour in the Grass, to food like the Bangalow Sample Food Festival, to arts including the Byron Bay Writers Festival & Byron Bay Film Festival, to the spiritual like the Starlight Wellbeing Expo and the Byron Spirit Festival;
There’s no shortage of great events year round. Some of our favourites include the Bangalow Billycart Derby, the Mullum to Bruns Paddle & the Lismore Lantern Parade; &
- Macadamia Castle really is worth a visit – loads of farm & native animals, mini golf, train rides …most importantly for parents, there’s a café there too.
